You Found Us!

We've made the jump to publishing via FTP to thelope.com. We hope this will solve a few of the technical issues we've been facing, as well as allowing flexibility to design a home page that will link to more than a blog in the future.

Does the Lope likes spam? I hear that it is good fried. I personally would never like to find out but who knows? Are lopes strictly herbivores?

Nina, as a close personal friend of the Lope, I can tell you with authority that the Lope does NOT like spam!! He is by no means a herbivore (one of his favorite things in the world is a good steak!), but he doesn't really consider spam to be a food!

Nina, under the following circumstance I would eat SPAM. It is my understanding that WWII troops were served SPAM at La Posada when the troup trains stopped there. Respecting this history, the Turquoise Room has considered putting a SPAM sandwich on the menu. Were this to happen, it's historic context and status as a specialty of the house would elevate it out of mediocrity. Otherwise, I'd have a hard time eating SPAM as it would violate the "eat no mediocre meals" rule we jackalopes live by. As to the other kind of SPAM, it's only value here was as a catalyst of commentary by two of my lovely drivers and your most-welcome question.

(let's try again...)

OMG! I came across your page using the "next blog" button. the lope intrigued me for some reason, and then it occured to me why. I'd seen him before!

Rilo Kiley

The shot was taken in October 2002, I think, at San Francisco's Cafe DuNord club. The singer is Jenny Lewis and the band is Rilo Kiley from Los Angeles. They've gotten quite big recently and opened for Coldplay on their last tour.

I can't believe Jenny let her lope go on stage naked!

She has obviously been too smart to start down the slippery slope of being the clothier for a 'lope.

First, they want just a scarf or something with the name of a state on it.

From there, it's shirts from Goodwill stores stuffed animals, Native American costumes made from tourist trap keychains...pretty soon you've got a box full of dancing hamster endoskeletons, slaughtered for the clothes that covered them.

tell Jenny...Don't start!

Hi,
I found you because someone who last visited your site then visited mine, and I was curious. (Was it you? If so, thanks! If someone else who visits your site, thanks!)(Mine is called Crib Ceiling - as in babies, not places to live)
This site is too fun!

Thanks, Krisco. No, I didn't visit your site, but I did bookmark it. S?o, you live in "a tiny little town, on the top of a mountain at the end of a highway, full of geniuses and foreigners"? Sounds like good material for a writer; there have to be some stories there!

I found you via a link on a website (I think it was route 66 news). I really enjoyed the "photo tour" of your August 05 route 66 trip. It's inspired me to travel the mother road someday. Where does Ace get all his "gear"? I especially liked the swami costume!

For the awful truth about where some of Ace's attire comes from, I suggest you check the Thanksgiving post: http://thelope.blogspot.com/2005/11/wanted-turkey-for-short-term.html

Hello from North Carolina, Mr. Lope. I discovered your website while searching for information about the remaining Wig Wam Motels. I had the pleasure of staying at the one in Holbrook, AZ while touring the Southwest in November 2005. My favorite souvenirs from my trip were the various jackalope items that I purchased: postcards, lope figurines, my jackalope t-shirt. I am a big fan of all jackalopes and wish that I could have been lucky enough to see a real live one. Imagine my delight when I found your website. I think you're the greatest and I absolutely love reading about your adventures. One question -- have you ever visited Roswell, NM?

Thanks for the note, nan d'assi. No, We've never been to Roswell, especially not in 1947. Nope, never there...never there...listen to the soothing music and remember, we were never there.
